Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Words destroyed me.

“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”

“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”

“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.

Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.

“He’s gone.”

In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

5 Stars

OMG that was an emotional book. How do i even begin to sum up how this book made me feel, describe the utter turmoil it put me through? This book, in fact both books, are one of those that leaves a lasting impression on you, one you will always remember, one you will find yourself thinking about days later.

Picking up right where The Darkest Sunrise left off, Porter and Charlotte’s lives were torn apart yet again. As if these two had not suffered enough, now the tables are turned and Porter finds himself experiencing the same loss Charlotte did all those years ago. Add Brady into the mix, who i literally wanted to strangle on more than one occasion and my heart just couldn’t cope with the strain. Porter, despite everything was so strong, he tried not to let the darkness consume him and hold onto the light even when things seemed hopeless. Charlotte was just so emotionally overwhelmed, she had back what she thought she would never have again and in the middle was Travis, a little boy who just wanted his family, his dad, the only one he had ever known, Porter.

One thing that didn’t change was the intensity of their relationship. Although they had been ripped apart, placed on opposite sides, the feelings they had for each other did not fade. They had each others backs, two broken people struggling through the storm, even when everything seemed bleak and this made me love them even more

Aly took us on a gut wrenching, heart breaking journey. I went through a myriad of emotions whilst reading, my stomach sank frequently, my heart ached but there was also moments of lightness of humour and i loved that we still got some of the banter between them. This was a deeply intense book and Aly has done an amazing job, it was so beautifully written, her writing so raw with emotion and you will find yourself thinking about it days after the last turn of the page

You won’t want to miss this amazing series!

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
