5 beautifully written stars that will leave you breathless

Its taken me a while to write this review as I’ve found it hard to sum up this book in a few paragraphs. Don’t Speak is truly a modern day fairytale – a beautifully written, emotional and inspiring second chance romance that will swoop you up and leave you breathless at the end. I loved it, I truly did.

Laire has lived on this tiny island all of her life with her overprotective, fiercely traditional father and two sisters. Not content to remain there her whole life like her sisters, she has dreams, things she wants to do but the reality is that achieving these things is going to be a lot harder than she thinks. Eric is from old money, the son of the state Governor there are certain expectations on his life – law school, working at his fathers firm and eventually following him into politics. But this isn’t really what he wants.

A chance meeting when Laire makes a delivery to Eric’s family mansion, come holiday home on a nearby island sends both their lives into a spin. They embark on a summer of sneaking around, neither able to tell their parents about who they are seeing. Laire has lived a very sheltered life, she is inexperienced and refreshingly different from the girls that Eric has become used to and he is enchanted by her, they fall fast and hard for each other.

An unfortunate series of events are set to tear them apart. There is misunderstanding, words are spoken  that can never be taken back and hearts broken. Eric is unable to move on with his life, stuck in the past he becomes distant, cold unable to forget Laire. Whilst it may seem that Laire has moved on, her life has changed in so many ways but like Eric, she has never ever got over him. Six years later and they meet again by chance. Can they forgive each other for the past? Will what tore them apart help to bring them back together?

This book swept me away on a sea of romance, forbidden love and second chances. It was emotional, thought provoking and Katy’s writing so descriptive that i could clearly picture the island’s, smell the salt water and feel every emotion as it washed over me. I loved both Eric and Laire right from the start. He was nothing like you would expect him to be and Laire was just a beautiful soul, sweet, strong and determined to live the best life that she could. Katy has given us a great love story that you will still be thinking about days after you have finished.
