Title: Lucas – A Preston Brothers Novel
Author: Jay McLean
Release Day: November 1, 2016
In a sprint, every millisecond counts.
When you’re waiting for love, those milliseconds can feel like eons.
High school senior Lucas Preston has it all: star of the track team, a scholarship waiting for him, an apartment to himself and a revolving door of girlfriends. He also has an older sister, five younger brothers and a father who relies on him to make sure those brothers don’t kill each other.
His saving grace? Lois “Laney” Sanders, a girl he started to fall in like with when he was just eleven.
A girl who became his best friend, his confidant, his courage.
It took only sixteen clicks and eight seconds for Lucas to realize that his like for Laney had turned into love.
Eight life-changing seconds.
It’s also the exact length of time it took to lose her.
This book gave me goose bumps! Jay McLean is the only author to have ever done that for me. Her writing is just brilliant and cram packed full of so much heart!
We first met the Preston brothers in Lucy and Cameron’s story More Than Forever and we get to see a whole lot more of them in this one. Since Lucy and Cameron went off to college Lucas has really stepped up and helps out a lot with his younger brothers. Through this we get a lot of insight about their characters and I love how different they all are.
I went into this book with a complete open mind, just excited to get more of Jays words and I was not disappointed. I think I felt every emotion throughout! I even hated Lucas at one point, I seriously wanted to shake him. He’s such a boy! He has faults and quirks just like any other teenage boy. He’s dealt with a lot from a very young age but he never complains. His family are his life and you just want everything else in it to be perfect for him!
This book deals with some serious issues but is also full of so much light and comedic one liners especially from the brothers!
I loved how we got to see more of Kathy and her and Toms back story and how she was as a mother. It just puts more validation on how much each of the kids adore her. She was an incredible woman!
I loved Laney. She has such strength of character. Even though she is naive in a lot of aspects she deals with a lot at a very young age and isn’t bitter about it. She’s loving and forgiving and pure. I especially loved her relationships with all the other Preston boys, especially Tom, their dad. I think he sees a lot of Kathy in Laney and that’s what those boys need.
We really get to grow up with these characters and I think that’s why I feel so invested with them all. The More gang will always be a special place in my heart and I think the Preston boys will be right there with them.
